Montecristo - Petit Tubos
The elegance and convenience of the Montecristo Petit Tubos makes it a perfect option for a sumptuous cigar to consume on the go.
Although it’s quite similar to the Montecristo 4, its character is unique to it and this is evident in the presence of abundance of earth, leather, coffee, nuts and other flavors.
The cigar is fairly complex and it has a medium body.
This cigar is an ideal Montecristo for first time smokers as well as those who love the Montecristo brand.
Ring gauge: 42
Shape: Petit Corona/ Mareva
Although it has a similar dimension as the Montecristo No. 4, the Petit Tubos has a better appearance than its brother as soon as it’s taken out of its beautiful aluminum tube. Sporting top quality roll and wrapper, the wrapper is medium brown in color and somewhat oily. On close observation, the cigar is closely packed all through its body. The triple cap is a beauty to behold while the veins on its wrapper are few. The cigar is truly attractive.
Powerful notes of tobacco flavor are released as soon as the tube is opened, this is a clear indicator that the tube was previously sealed. The wrapper leaves hints of grassy/ hay aromas alongside barnyard notes.
The Montecristo Petit Tubos has an effortless cut and there are no residues of stray leaf. The process of cigar lighting is seamless while the draw is perfect and uniform all the way. The first set of draws unravels the classic montecristo “twang”. Some other flavors like leather and coffee also leave an impression on the palate while sweet tobacco dominates the finish. The cigar’s body goes from medium to full body and the flavors are very strong. The burn line becomes irregular at a point but this doesn’t affect anything as the cigar burns gradually without ever going off. The foot of the cigar gives an abundance of smoke and there’s the presence of a nice charcoal cone there.
The first third is way smoother than what was obtained in the first draws, the cigar’s body now stands in the medium range. Flavors like coffee, mix of leather and earth and pepper dominate this phase. Hints of cream also appear and there’s an occasional display of roughness from the cigar. Overall, the initial third is quite enjoyable.
Most of the flavors from the initial third stay dominant in the middle third, the only exception being the growing presence of nuttiness. Also, hints of grassiness start to appear towards the mid-section of the cigar, however, these flavors become extinct towards the final third. The complexity of the flavors is more pronounced while the body moves to medium strength.
In this phase, the spiciness and the harshness start reduce to give way to complexity of flavors. The coffee is enjoyable in this phase while other fresh herbal flavors like mint join the mix of leathery and earthy notes. The end of the cigar is perfect and this makes it almost impossible to drop. However, you are forced to drop it as soon as it starts to burn your fingers.
Summarily, this cigar is perfect for Habanos lovers as well as novice smokes that desire to unleash taste of Cuban cigars.
